A pretty ordinary maiden stakes race over 5f 20y on standard going. Seven runners and one horse making its debut which I have been waiting to see for over a year. To be fair, if this bay gelding, a son of Bahamian Bounty, is as good as it was at two it will win this race impressively. The horse in question is Lapilli, trained by William Haggas, in the ownership of Sheikh Ahmed Al Maktoum. A 70,000GNS yearling purchase, this now three-year-old held many impressive group entries at two which suggests this gelding has ability. In some respects, the only concern is that this bay is now a gelding which indicates he has been a bit of a handful in his formative season. Lets put this race in some sort of context. The best form horse in this race Hot Stuff has an official rating of just 63. That is poor, almost selling class. Dream Dubai is second favourite on the tissue prices. Sylvester Kirk is a canny trainer but there is only one horse I will be considering. If Lapilli has ability - which I know for a fact it did at two when going well on the gallops - it will win.
