2:00 Pontefract Racing Tips (30th July)

The sole two-year-old race of the day. Interesting heat with a few form horses on this stiff course.

Kalagia is the only juvenile in this field to receive who has received a significant entry. This daughter of Kodiac has to shoulder a win penalty which, we have seen many times this year, takes some doing. In many respects, these penalties are forgotten by punters. I would love to see the statistics for horses.

Sosian hasn't received a significant entry as yet but has a level of ability. She is likely to be outpaced in the early stages. If betting, I would take a punt in the in-running market because I can see much bigger odds being available. Fahey's charge will undoubtedly run on with verve and could well take some beating.

Big Les has Jamie Spencer booked, which catches the eye for a smaller trainer like McLinton. He rode this likeable colt last time at York over 5 1/2f. I can see this son of Big Bad Bob being sent to the front. The issue is whether he can fight off finishers with the likes of Sosian flying at the death.

If betting, I would try to lay your stake in running just to protect your interests. It is possible this bay might gain an easy lead and this may allow you to put a few quid in your pocket after a furlong or two. On balance, I could see how money can be made on a few of these.
